2 + 2 = 5

Are you such a dreamer
To put the world to rights
I’ll stay home forever
Where two and two always makes a five

I live and love my life. With uncountable blessing, and every second to laugh. I love it all. All. I love my grandma, and my parents, and my brother, and my friends from high school or college or even the cyberspace. I love every book I own, and every bag I bought.

But sometimes I feel like Oskar, from Safran Foer’s novel, Extremely Loud Incredibly Close.

The next morning I told Mom I couldn’t go to school again. She asked what’s wrong. I told her, “The same thing that’s always wrong.” “You’re sick?” “I’m sad.” “About Dad?” “About everything.” She sat down on the bed next to me, even though I knew she was in a hurry. “What’s everything?” I started counting on my fingers.

After that, Oskar mentioned all the things he felt so wrong but could never put to right. The list includes ‘nightmares’, ‘Microsoft Windows’, and ‘how Chinese people own Mexican restaurants but Mexican people never own Chinese restaurants’.

This book is so a must-have. But that’s not my point here. The point is, like Oskar, I’m sometimes sad about the same things that’s always wrong.

(No offense. No offense, please. No offense, please please me. Even Oskar mentioned ‘Microsoft Windows’ as a wrong thing.  This is just our cynicism about capitalism.)

Brandminded people who worship expensive clothing, people who are obsessed with popularity, girls who think those girls on magazines have perfect lives, the dusty pavements in Bekasi, Indonesian bands those sound like Malaysians, girls with red hair and too bold mascara that makes them look 10 years older, black plastic bags, people who overdid their photos with Adobe Photoshop or LightRoom to have Lomography weakness, corny Facebook statuses, teenagers who talk with Marshanda’s “gueeeyy” jive, teenagers who use BlackBerry just to tweet and twat with BB Messenger, UNO and other card games played in cafes, fashion bloggers wannabes with terrible picture resolutions,

Heartbreaking Reality

&

how there are so many heartbreaking reality and the same amount of arrogant and selfish people.

“girls who think those girls on magazines have perfect lives,”

“people who overdid their photos with Adobe Photoshop or LightRoom to have Lomography weakness,”

    “corny Facebook statuses,”

ditambah lagi gue mempostnya di sini.. well.. gue pikir.. orang berhak punya pencapaian tersendiri terhadap hal2 yang salah di mata orang banyak. asal itu bener buat dia.. why not? jadi agak menyesal membenci alay..

hey, no offense. it’s wrong for me, then what. right or wrong is all about relativity.

even bombing is not wrong for the suicide-bomber.

I like the idea of “no offense”, but surely it sounds like putting too much “judgement” on others. I think that we shouldn’t see others based on their appearance or what they like, but we ought to see others based on their personality and capability. It’s so sad and narrow minded that someone will think of people who wear good clothing are selfish and arrogant. Again, this is just my thought, “no offense.”

    @rizal: :D :D

@iks: hahah.. takut dibilang terlalu judgmental iks.. I’ve been already actually :P

@kak egris: yes, I’m totally agree with you. but here, I see too many people who think that brand is everything. good and branded clothing are surely nice, if the person who wears it, like you said: has good personality and capability. :)

In “my opinion,” there’s nothing wrong with those people who loves branded and good things. We have to be open minded on how people enjoys their life. Just like how you enjoy dealing with your expensive camera lens and accessories, the same way like everybody else, they like something to do other than doing criminal. People likes to spend their money on something that makes them relax, like shopping, traveling, going to eat at restaurants, have coffee at Starbucks, meeting relatives and so on. So, “love to buy branded goods” is NOT A CRIME, and we shouldn’t limit their method of relaxation. Moreover, we should never judge them wrong. I think that only GOD can judge human. There is something positive inside everyone, and we should see them in their positive side, not on their outside appearance. For those people who like being popular, see “Oprah” who uses her popularity to help others. See Angelina Jolie, who uses her popularity to be the ambassador of United Nation and help children all over Asia. Want to be popular is not a crime as well. Again, and again, “no offense,” just an opinion.

@kak egris: wowwwww…. you really open up my mind, kak. thank you very much. you said this part very well:

So, “love to buy branded goods” is NOT A CRIME, and we shouldn’t limit their method of relaxation. Moreover, we should never judge them wrong.

I agree. I should be much less judgmental. :) :)

    mau ikutan komen boleh gak?
gw sih suka banget post lo put..

    @stella:
hmm.. emang sih love to buy branded goods is not a crime..
ga salah, tapi juga GAK BENER..
    let’s see:

try to open ur mind juga nih gw..
    rakyat indonesia yuh ga miskin.
    tapi KESENJANGAN SOSIAL tinggi..

jadi masalahnya bukan tentang bagaimana orang kaya nikmatin uang mereka..

  15. mangasi

wow.. hebat!! tulisannya menggugah.. keep writing put.. :)
